Studying the Bible -- What is the Book of I Corinthians About?

Paul wrote this book as a letter, or epistle, to the church in Corinth. Corinth was a wicked city and the church had many problems as members sought to cleanse themselves of their idolatrous background. In this epistle, Paul addresses several problems within the church. Paul uses the phrase "concerning the things of which you wrote" or "now concerning" which leads us to believe that Paul is answering issues sent to him from Corinth. Though they live in difficult circumstances, and have many problems within, Paul urges them to faithfulness and purity but warns that he may have to come with authority to solve some issues if they do not resolve them by his arrival.
