Studying the Bible -- What is the Book of 1 John About?

The first epistle of "the disciple whom Jesus loved" is about love. The proper love for God manifested in the obedience to His commands and walking in the light of His word. John emphasized the importance of love among brethren and that one could not claim to have true love for God and not love His brethren. He also describes the love of God for us through which He adopted us, cares for us, and hears our prayers.
