Studying the Bible -- What is the Book of 1 Peter About?

Peter's first epistle, written to a broad audience in Asia, Galatia, and surrounding areas, emphasizes the importance of faithfulness to Christ during persecution. Though persecuted, their faith would make them stronger and give their enemies no reason to rejoice. Peter described the church as a building made with living stones-Christians-built upon Jesus who must glorify Him in their lives. In describing submission to Christ, Peter urged his readers to show proper submission in family, governmental, and servant/master relationships. First Peter is a book that describes the Christian in the world but not of the world-in word, allegiance, and deed.
