Studying the Bible -- What is the Book of 2 Peter About?

Peter's second epistle was probably written late in life as Peter considered his impending martyrdom for Jesus. He exhorted his readers to build themselves up in Christ so that they would be useful and not fall away from Him. He warned of false teachers who would try to lead them away from Christ and urged them to hold onto the pure truth so they could see through the error and not be led away. The book closes with a warning to those who would scoff at the delay of Jesus' Second Coming; mocking instead of considering it an opportunity to repent. However, Jesus will not wait forever so we must be ready for His return in which all earthly things will end.
