Studying the Bible -- What is the Book of Acts About?
Luke, a preacher who traveled with Paul, wrote the book of Acts. The book is an epistle written by Luke to a man named Theophilus as a companion to his gospel. The book of Acts traces the growth of the church from its establishment in Jerusalem, to its spread into Judea, Samaria, and ultimately, throughout the world. Though called "Acts of the Apostles" it only provides details the work of Peter and Paul, and the work of Philip, who was not an apostle. Even here, the book is not an exhaustive account of the work of these men but representative of the spread of the gospel into the world. |
