Studying the Bible -- What is the Book of Colossians About?

The book of Colossians is a letter from Paul to the church in Colosse. Paul wrote it from prison and apparently wrote the book of Ephesians at the same time for the books are very similar. The book of Colossians emphasizes the superiority of Christ above the wisdom and power of the world. He warned the Colossians of the dangers of the philosophies of the world and the legalism of the Law of Moses. He also warned them against the carnality of the world and a false show of religion. True service requires a changed life, focusing on Christ above, and living in harmony with one’s brethren. He admonished them to live in their earthly relationships in an humble and holy manner, knowing they would receive their reward from Christ.
