Studying the Bible -- What is the Book of Galatians About?
The book of Galatians was written by the apostle Paul to the churches of the region of Galatia. The primary theme of the letter is a warning not to return to the Law of Moses. Christ came to redeem them from the Law. The Law was given to prepare them for Christ’s coming, but now that He came and died for them, they were to submit to Him and not seek to be justified by the Law. Through Christ they would become heirs of the promise to Abraham and spiritually his descendants. Paul worried that they would neglect this relationship and seek to be justified by the law and, in so doing, fall from grace. He closed the epistle with various admonitions to do good to others, sharing their burdens while bearing their own load. He also admonished them to put off the works of wickedness and to do the works of the Spirit. |
